the festival
2020 -
Festivals and carnivals have always accompanied humanity and are known to all cultures around the world. We can trace their mythological and religious origins since the ancient times. The festivals are, in a sense, our connection to the Sacred.
The Festival is a time beyond time. A moment when we distance ourselves from and get out of our everyday lives, our problems and daily routine. It seems like we overcome the linear flow of time and tell it to stop in order to experience something special - something we call "timelessness". During a festival, we dress differently and sometimes we disguise ourselves. Only then we can be who we are not, who we want to be or someone else, for a certain time.
“The festival” is an ongoing project. These photographs were taken throughout 2020-2023 in Bulgaria in the cities of Kazanlak, Pernik, Rakovski, Pomore and villages - Ovoshtnik, Yardzhilovtsi, Kralev dol and Breznik.
